2006-10-23 - 9:03 a.m. On Saturday morning, I dragged myself out of bed and ran a 5K. It's not really that far (just over 3 miles), but someone whose previous philosophy about running was "only if something bag and nasty is chasing me," it's kind of a big deal. Although I guess those 50+ pounds are something big and nasty, and I certainly don't want them catching back up with me! I finished in 35:30, which works out to 11:27 per mile. This makes sense, given that with the limited opportunities I had to time myself during runs, I seemed to be averaging about a 12-minute mile. My only goal was to run the whole thing, which I did, even if it was verrrrry slooooowly in parts. Damn hills! Overall, not so bad considering that when I started adding runs to my walks I couldn't last through a whole song. Although I am still not a big fan of running, it has been fun to see the progress I made over the summer. Just wanted to share because I am inordinately proud of myself. Yay me!
